[DISCLAIMER: I really REALLY like Deadpool]
Summary [9.5 out of 10]
Deadpool is now a videogame and it could not have be executed any better than this, a perfect example of why a Deadpool movie would never work but excels well in this format. Yes this is a game about superheroes, no it is absolutely nothing like the Batman Arkham series games. Not to say that it doesn’t have its merits but Wade is more batshit insane mercenary instead of superhero, despite his best efforts.

What Is It Like?
The game uses the UE3 engine, previously used on Transformers: Fall of Cyberton, while it has it flaws it works perfectly for the game. This is very much a beat’em up game where you plow through wave after wave of generic bad guys/clones. The amazing thing about that is this fact is acknowledged and even joked upon by Deadpool, this completely adds to the immersion and enjoyment.

The Great
Story: The plot is masterfully crafted by Deadpool scribe Daniel Way and by that I mean it is a completely solid Deadpool story. Using Mr. Sinister as the main baddie was a master stroke, it just so happens that he ranks high as one of my top comic villains. Wade’s long time love interest Death makes a great appearance and is used exceedingly well to drive the narrative along and highlight a great part of Deadpool’s mythology. Another great set of character interactions is between Cable and Deadpool. Do yourself a favor, anytime a character is introduced click and watch Deadpool’s back-story on them.

Level design: Never has Genosha be represented on such a large scale, especially after House of M was released you could almost image Magneto’s paradise vacation spot, but here is it desolate spot used for sinister purposes by well, Mr. Sinister. Your journey through Genosha takes you through large courtyards into offices, past discarded sentinel parts, into a prison area, through ancient caverns and finally to Magneto’s citadel.

The Good
Gameplay: The fighting mechanics are great, just like Deadpool’s fighting style you can switch between swordplay and gunplay with the greatest of easy. The more kills you rack up with a weapon the more unlocks become available to you, so there is a bit of a fight curve and it benefits you to unlock and use as many different weapons early on. This is one time where self healing makes sense due to Deadpool’s unqiue healing factor, you can add on additional bonuses to increase healing or your chance of taking damage. I was surprised there wasn’t a larger focus on the healing factor and upgrading

Soundtrack: While a bit repetitive the music fits well and helps tempo the mood for either a bit fight or just running around to explore.
The Bad
Activation fired 40 people from the team back in April.

The Camera: As with the Transformer games produced by High Moon Studios that camera can at times be a bit maddening, either you can do too much, nothing or you have suched a cock eyed angle that it makes you scratch your head. Granted this sounds like a good thing for a Deadpool game but when you are trying to get a better angle on character interactions that can be a bit frustrating.
The Randomly Awesome
There is a lot to cover here, without spoiling any of the fun there is a reference to some certain sewer dwelling teenage reptiles very early on in the game if you explore around a bit.
Conclusion [9.5 out of 10]
Deadpool exceeds expectations for a Marvel game, well no where near a direct competitor for the Arkham series it does show that given the right character, story and game engine Marvel Comics can make for some decent video games.
