E3 Short Previews

Closing in on the end of my E3 coverage I have a few more games I managed to get some hands on time with but there isn’t much to put into a preview. So here are the short videos and impressions. Here goes.

Crackdown 2

The gameplay feels a lot like the first game with a similar control scheme and mission structure. Even the Narrator sounds the same. You gain experience to get better at the things you do like if you jump a lot your jumping improves from being able to jump pretty high to really, really high. Apparently the game have been overhauled under the hood so it can handle a lot more enemies and a ton more action. There is also a storyline of substance this time around. I dug the first one and this one played pretty much the same way so it seems like it should be solid.

Dead Rising 2

Another sequel that is bigger and prettier looking but feels very similar to the first. Being able to combine weapons makes things just that much better as you have even more options for slaughtering the undead. The controls seem a bit more forgiving this time out too as navigating around the Casino (which was very mall like in the demo) and I found killing and surviving less of a chore. Escorting survivors is back which is a little annoying to me as I am no good at all at it. Overall it feels similar but smoother.

Marvel Vs Capcom 3

MvC3 is pretty much what I though it would be. Crazy awesome. The button layout features a punch, kick, heavy attack and a juggle button. Shoulder buttons bring in your companions for special attacks and triggers swap your characters. Super moves and partner combos are brutal and chaotic and the whole thing is fast paced chaos. I used Ryu, Chris Redfield and Deadpool and they all played like butter. Very excited.

Splatterhouse

This was one that Riyad was particularly interested in so I checked it out. I was pretty interested too even though I never played the original games. The game play was alright, very similar to the God of War style gameplay only with severed limbs to beat people with. The graphics are pretty awesome with some nasty damage on the character and buckets of blood flying around. Then demo felt pretty standard and not something I am hugely looking forward to but it seems like it could be fun.

Tron

I wasn’t sure what to expect from Tron but it looks great and plays smooth. The parkour like running and jumping works well once you get the hang of it and the combat is fast and varied with three different play styles depending on which button you are holding down and you can change it quickly and easily. I didn’t play any light cycles or anything like that but the melee and chasing play are tight and fun.

Two Worlds II

I never played the first Two Worlds but I hear it is awful. I also hear that Two Worlds II is a big step up. So given my time with Two Worlds II I can only imagine that the first one was god awful. I found the missions to be tedious and the combat was choppy and unintuitive with the character moving a bit like a robot. The graphics weren’t bad but animation during conversations seemed stiff and didn’t offer much depth. I hope that this gets polished a lot more between now and whenever this is releasing.
