Patrick's 10 Favorite Vampire and Werewolf Movies

04. Let the Right One In (2008)

There are bizarre parallels between Let the Right One in and the Twilight Series insofar as it deals with a teenage vampire and her friendship with an awkward boy without any friends but those parallels give out once you get past that cursory description. Let the Right One In is not flashy and in your face but tells a quiet tale of friendship and the horrors it unfolds do so slowly and deliberately. That horror is juxtaposed with the genuine sweetness and affection between vampire Eli and social outcast Oskar which in turn sort of makes the horror that much more effective. This is also not a film that spoon feeds you and gives the audience plenty to think about, just as long as you don’t end up with one of the DVDs with the jacked up subtitles. The film is from Sweden and is obviously in Swedish. The theatrical subtitles differed from the first batch of subtitles found on the home release. Those subtitles were dumbed down considerably in order to be more approachable to the American teen/Twilight crowd and had the effect of completely ruining the film. This has since been corrected and proper subtitles accompany current DVD releases.  An American remake called Let Me In is slated for release October 1 2010 and stars Chloe Moretz (Kick Ass’s Hit Girl) as the vampire. I think a remake is a horrible as the film in only two years old and stands on its own but what are you going to do?

  1. Okay, so I was almost to the bottom of the “vampire” list and I was like, “Where the hell is the Lost Boys.”

    I almost had a stroke.

    Best soundtrack, EVER.

    God.

  2. 3 fright night

    1 lost boys

also I was going to be furious about Silver Bullet not being higher until I saw Brotherhood of the Wolf. Good Call.

  3. You can also use midi controllers on certains phones, and you
can load your own sounds and samples in WAV or Soundfont format.
It’s all being done on a consumer and a grass-roots basis but I think some of the options that are available in
usable technologies can be brought here and the DVC30 was one of those.
Not all mp3 player decor will work with the next brand.
