Patrick's 10 Favorite Vampire and Werewolf Movies

03. Bad Moon (1996)

Written and directed by Eric Red who wrote the awesome (but barely missed the cut) Near Dark, Bad Moon is a fairly straight forward werewolf tale of an uncle who shows up to visit and happens to be a werewolf.  Michael Pare stars as the uncle wolf man and Mason Gamble (Dennis the Menace) is Brett, the cute little kid who knows something is up. His dog Thor agrees and they try to set up for the inevitable confrontation. Bad Moon is based on the novel Thor which is told from the dog’s perspective. Red doesn’t go that route here but the dog does figure prominently in the story and is ultimately the hero. While this is somewhat unconventional it is largely effective and the film offers up a preponderance of gore and violence such that seconds worth of content were removed to secure an R rating. The transformation scenes are cool and the werewolf itself looks pretty awesome. I am also a fan of Michael Pare (mostly off the strength of Streets of Fire) so that is icing on the cake.

  1. Okay, so I was almost to the bottom of the “vampire” list and I was like, “Where the hell is the Lost Boys.”

    I almost had a stroke.

    Best soundtrack, EVER.

    God.

  2. 3 fright night

also I was going to be furious about Silver Bullet not being higher until I saw Brotherhood of the Wolf. Good Call.

  3. You can also use midi controllers on certains phones, and you
can load your own sounds and samples in WAV or Soundfont format.
It’s all being done on a consumer and a grass-roots basis but I think some of the options that are available in
usable technologies can be brought here and the DVC30 was one of those.
Not all mp3 player decor will work with the next brand.
