Patrick's 10 Favorite Vampire and Werewolf Movies

The 4th of July weekend was handily dominated by the latest installment of the Twilight film series, that misbegotten teen romance series in which a vapid and incompetent girl is inexplicably wooed by a teenage vampire who sparkles and is only vaguely a vampire and a teenage werewolf who doesn’t wear shirts and isn’t a real werewolf either.  Teenage girls and dissatisfied middle aged married women who hate their husbands have been completely snowed by this bullshit but for those of us who are not infatuated by these ridiculous emo impostors I thought I would put together a couple of lists of my favorite Vampire movies and werewolf movies. As with all of my lists I am putting down my favorites, not necessarily the best although in this case, the field of good examples of the two genres is not terribly wide. The order is loosely based on preference although I like all of these quite a bit.  I’ll do the vampires first:

TOP 10 FAVORITE VAMPIRE MOVIES:

10. From Dusk Til Dawn (1996)

Directed by Robert Rodriguez and based on a screenplay by Quentin Tarantino,  From Dusk Til Dawn is a strange movie. It starts out feeling like a typical Tarantino crime picture in the vein of Reservoir Dogs where two criminals take a family hostage and use their RV to cross into Mexico so they can meet up with contacts at a bar in the middle of nowhere called the Titty Twister. They have to hang out at the bar overnight until the next morning, which would be fine except the whole place is run by vampires and they are completely and totally fucked. A lot of people are put off by the abruptness of this shift but I personally love that you almost forget that the movie is a vampire movie by the time it actually starts dealing with them. The cast is great boasting George Clooney, Harvey Keitel, Juliette Lewis, Salma Hayek, Danny Trejo, Quentin Tarantino, Fred Williamson, Cheech Marin and special effects great Tom Savini as the truly bad ass Sex Machine. The movie is completely crazy and over the top with gore, martial arts and a healthy sense of humor. If you are a fan of Rodriguez or Tarantino, it is a must see.

  1. Okay, so I was almost to the bottom of the “vampire” list and I was like, “Where the hell is the Lost Boys.”

    I almost had a stroke.

    Best soundtrack, EVER.

    God.

  2. 3 fright night
    2 interview
    1 lost boys

also I was going to be furious about Silver Bullet not being higher until I saw Brotherhood of the Wolf. Good Call.

  3. You can also use midi controllers on certains phones, and you
can load your own sounds and samples in WAV or Soundfont format.
It’s all being done on a consumer and a grass-roots basis but I think some of the options that are available in
usable technologies can be brought here and the DVC30 was one of those.
Not all mp3 player decor will work with the next brand.
